Free Books of Boston is a non-profit organization founded in 2003, now awaiting formal status as a 501(c)3. Our mission is to give books away to people who need and want them. Our founder, Anna Watson, took her inspiration for this project from Book Thing in Baltimore, and its founder Russell Wattenberg.
We solicit donations of books from organizations and individuals and redistribute the books to schools, homeless shelters, people in prison, and food pantries. We also maintain shelves of free books in area shops.
Please visit our current free shelves in Arlington at:
We would like very much to find a permanent storefront space where people would be able to come for free books. We also plan to expand our reach by asking volunteers to take free books into their own communities and anywhere there is a need.
We welcome suggestions, ideas, and volunteer help. And of course, we need a great many books! We take all topics, adult and child (check with us about textbooks), in any language and almost any condition.
